Woman accused of driving drunk in rental car makes court appearance | Crime
There was no comment Wedneday from Chasity Lotta, the Canandaigua woman accused of driving a rental car while drunk.
Police say that Lotta rented the car to avoid using the interlock device that was installed on her own car. She has the device because of a previous DWI conviction.
The 23-year-old made her first appearance in Canandaigua City Court Wednesday morning. This was her first court appearance fon the felony DWI charge. She missed her first appearance last week. Lotta turned herself in to police two days after missing that initial appearance.
Investigators pulled her over in the rental car earlier this month for speeding. They say she was drunk and also had an open container of alcohol in the car. A preliminary hearing was scheduled for Friday, but the case is expected to be presented to a grand jury Thursday. The case could be waived up to Ontario County Court.
Lotta is still in custody on $17,500 cash or $30,000 bond.
