Jockey Jose David Osorio passed away at his residence on Tuesday, October 4.
Finger Lakes horsemen, employees and fans will join in a moment of silence on Thursday to honor the memory of Osorio. The event will take place before the running of the first race.
"This is a tragedy that is felt throughout the entire Finger Lakes racing community, stated Chris Riegle, president and general manager of Finger Lakes Casino & Racetrack. "We are deeply saddened by the loss of Osorio."
Osorio began his career in 1996. He had been a regular rider at the Western New York track since 2002. His most notable victory was aboard 59-1 longshot Say Toba Sandy in the $50,000 Finger Lakes Juvenile Fillies on October 13, 2007.
The 34-year-old from Carolina, Puerto Rico registered 414 of his 427 lifetime triumphs at Finger Lakes. With 3,380 mounts, he amassed a sum of $4,672,400 in purse earnings over the course of his riding career. During the 2011 racing season he had 197 starts and notched a total of 30 victories.
Live racing will resume on Thursday with a 1:10 p.m. post time. The 2011 racing season continues through Saturday, December 3. The casino floor featuring nearly 1,200 slots is open 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 a.m. daily. Admission and parking are always free.
